Ensuring Success - Year 11
Year 11 pupils are offered a programme of additional support in preparation for examinations. This includes: Head Start Sessions, Bitesize Sessions and Prep Sessions
Head Start
The ‘Head Start’ morning sessions are delivered by English, Mathematics and Science Heads of Department. ‘Head Start’ sessions are aimed at identified pupils who require additional support or ‘stretch’ on particular aspects of study. The group size will be a maximum of four pupils and will last for a half term period.
Bitesize
‘Bitesize’ sessions are revision sessions that prepare pupils for the series of Mock Examinations and final external examinations. Year 10 content is revisited and helps pupils embed learning in their longer term memories. More recent learning will also be revised and effective examination techniques practised. Bitesize sessions take place every week (12.40 – 1.10pm) – Tuesday to Thursday (inclusive).
Prep sessions:
English, Mathematics and Science teachers will deliver evening prep sessions for Year 11 Boarding and Day Pupils. This means that the prep sessions are actively delivered on the relevant subject content. The evening prep sessions take place every week – Tuesday to Thursday (inclusive) and last for 1 hour, beginning at 4.30pm.
Outside of the Curriculum
Alongside the curriculum our extracurricular activities provide opportunities for further challenges and personal development. Our unique offer means that we are in the top 1% of schools for value added.
Our approach transforms the lives of pupils by building self confidence, knowledge and skills.
Dyslexia Specialist Teaching Methods
As a dyslexia specialist we embrace the most effective teaching methods to support and challenge all pupils, employing modelling, scaffolding, assistive technology and using the expertise of our Specialist Learning Support team. Lessons are designed to make learning stick by using recall ‘flashback’ activities that enable pupils to recall existing learning and embed existing knowledge. Pupils retention of learning is at the heart of everything we do. Developing their longer term memory is also achieved through the multi-sensory approach.
