In what is becoming an annual tradition for Bredon School, Friday 26th November sees the start of our ‘12 Days of Giving’ campaign. The concept of the initiative involves us asking pupils and staff to bring in one item of food or a toiletry product for 12 consecutive days, from 26th November until 7th December. Mrs Morris is coordinating the initiative, ably assisted by ASDAN course pupils who will be working as a team to compile your donations, that will go to help families who are in crisis this Christmas.
Food Bank Statistics
In its most recent annual analysis, The Trussell Trust, the UK’s biggest network of food banks, revealed that between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2021, food banks in the Trussell Trust’s UK wide network distributed 2.5 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis, a 33% increase on the previous year. 980,000 of these went to children.
Emma Revie (Trussell Trust Chief Executive) explains, “as a nation we expect no one should be left hungry or destitute – illness, disability, family breakdown or the loss of a job could happen to any of us, and we owe it to each other to make sure sufficient financial support is in place when we need it most.”
Ideas for Your Donations
All donations will be given to Tewkesbury Food Bank at the end of term, who will then distribute the items into the local community to families and the elderley in need. You can keep up to date with all of the items that Tewkesbury food bank currently needs here. In addition, please see the list below for ideas of items you can bring in.
Food Cupboard Staple Items
- Cereal
- Soup
- Pasta
- Rice
- Pasta sauce
- Beans
- Tinned meat
- Tinned vegetables
- Tea/coffee
- Tinned fruit
- Tinned puddings
- Biscuits
- Jams, spreads, preserves
- Cooking oil
- UHT milk
- Long life fruit juice
Hygiene Toiletry Item
- Toiletries – deodorant, toilet paper, shower gel, shaving gel, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, tooth paste, hand wipes
- Household items – laundry liquid detergent, laundry powder, washing up liquid
- Feminine products – sanitary towels and tampons
- Baby supplies – nappies, baby wipes and baby food (but not formula milk).
The Christmas Magic
Given the time of year it would also be nice to include some festive items and additional Christmas treats such as;
- Festive biscuits
- Sweets
- Chocolate
- Christmas cakes
- Christmas puddings
Please ensure that each item has a shelf life of a few weeks, to take into account the transition from school, to the food bank and then out to the families. Please don’t include alcohol, baby formula, anything homemade or out-of-date within your packages, as unfortunately these won’t be able to be passed onto Tewkesbury Food Bank.
We will have a collection box in the Pull Court Reception at Bredon School from Friday 26th November, so please bring all of your items in each day for 12 days and place them in the designated collection box.
